Granger, Pacers cut down Nets

Basketball Betting Lines

11/08/2008 - Indianapolis, IN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Danny Granger led a balanced Indiana scoring attack with 23 points, as the Pacers pulled away late to crush the Nets, 98-80, at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Troy Murphy had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who snapped their two-game slide. Jeff Foster added 12 points and 13 boards, while T.J. Ford had 13 points, nine assists and nine rebounds. Marquis Daniels gave 14 points in the win.

Vince Carter had 31 points for the Nets, who dropped their third game in four attempts. Keyon Dooling ended with 17 points, while Yi Jianlian had only two points but hauled in 11 boards.

One night after a career-best performance of 38 points, Nets guard Devin Harris didn't suit up for Saturday's setback. Harris sprained his left ankle in Friday's win over the Pistons, but finished that game.

The Pacers led 32-27 after the first quarter, but the Nets battled back to take a 51-49 lead at the half.

Indiana scored the first 12 points of the third quarter to assume a 61-51 lead with eight minutes left in the stanza. Ford sparked the run with a pull-up jumper and Murphy had a three-pointer, but Granger accounted for seven of the points on the surge.

The Pacers led by as many as 12 in the third, but two free throws from Bobby Simmons and a Dooling fadeaway shot pulled the Nets within 74-66 heading into the final frame.

Following Granger's three-point play, a Jarvis Hayes free throw pulled New Jersey within 10 points, 77-67. However, Granger scored the next five points to make it 82-67 with 8 1/2 minutes left in regulation.

Indiana's lead hovered around the mid-teens for the rest of the game.

Game Notes

Indiana center Rasho Nesterovic (ankle) didn't play in Saturday's game...New Jersey had won six of eight and seven of the last 10 matchups in the series. Indiana has beaten New Jersey three straight times at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Football Betting: Defensive Rookie of the Year Awards

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.

Bet on NFL Football

Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.

Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.

Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.

Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.

All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.

A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
